Man, these pix are great! I bet you used a film camera, didn't you?
Well I hope you enjoyed your stay at my home town. :-D
Lee Bennett (ATPM Staff) · May 12, 2004 - 21:01 EST #2
Jesus - nope. As was indicated in this set's description, they were all taken with the 5-megapixel Olympus C-5050. I'm glad you enjoyed them.
Ed Williams · July 1, 2004 - 23:37 EST #3
The images seem awfully large for both downloading and what I understand is still the most common-size monitor. (Or are we in no-expense-spare Yuppy tech city now?) Is there some good reason for that that I am unaware of?

Some quite nice pictures however, esp. of the street in old San Juan.

Lee Bennett (ATPM Staff) · July 1, 2004 - 23:48 EST #4
Ed - I hope I speak for all of the ATPM staff to say that we pride ourselves in offering large-size desktop images. The real truth is that, at higher qualities, an 800x600 shot doesn't compress an overwhelming amount smaller than the size we usually provide. With this in mind, and considering that virtually any modern OS (Windows included) will automatically scale down an image to match your monitor, and considering the shrinking number of people who rely solely on dialup, we've never bothered offering varying sizes.

My images of Puerto Rico are at 1280x960. You didn't mention what type of machine and display size you are using, but with many of Apple's displays weighing in at 15" or better, larger images are required if someone wishes to not degrade the image a bit by enlarging it. A 15" PowerBook's resolution is 1280x854.
Teresa Mcguire · September 14, 2004 - 14:01 EST #5
I know what you are saying about the image of the picture, I to use a digital camera a 3.1 million effective pixels a S5000 Fujifilm It is one of the biggest pixel camera's out there. I'm going to Puerto Rico for 4 to 6 mo and I'm taking my camera of course, I love to take pictures of all things. These are great pictures you have and I hope I get some great shots myself.
Lee Bennett (ATPM Staff) · September 14, 2004 - 14:15 EST #6
Teresa - hate to burst your bubble, but a 3.1-megapixel camera is most definitely not the "biggest pixel camera" out there. Consumer cameras have been in the 4- to 6-megapixel range for quite a while, and 8-megapixel is now starting to show up a lot.

But 3.1 is more than adequate for desktop photos. If you come up with any great ones, feel free to submit them for a future ATPM issue.
Rosemarie Colon Sanchez · October 14, 2004 - 15:53 EST #7
I loved this pictures. A co-worker gave me this link so that I could see the pictures from our country, specially the ones from Ponce, my city. Keep shooting!
Lee Bennett (ATPM Staff) · October 14, 2004 - 22:24 EST #8
Rosemarie - glad you liked them. I'd love to keep shooting but, alas, it will undoubtedly be a very very long time, if ever, before I get back to Puerto Rico. There are too many other places overseas I want to visit first—enough to last a lifetime!

By the way, this page was just the first half. Did you see the second batch?
Luis R. Mercado · January 18, 2005 - 22:49 EST #9
Awsome! This are the best picture for my desketop background. Excellent fotos, please let me know if you post more from the beaches and the coast, thanks,
Luis. (Ponce, PR)
Lee Bennett (ATPM Staff) · January 18, 2005 - 23:32 EST #10
Luis - there'll only be more Puerto Rico photos if another photographer submits them. The ones on this page and in the following month's issue were, what I believe, the best quality shots suitable for this series. If you want more, though, and don't mind wading through all the images of me and my crew cutting up, my entire album of 455 images spanning 31 pages is online.
Gloria Miranda · March 22, 2005 - 19:35 EST #11
These pictures bring me lots of good memories thankyou so much I am a Puerto Rican that now lives in Wisconsin boy what a differance. Thanks again...
Zach Callahan · March 29, 2005 - 17:29 EST #12
i wish to use your fotos for my report on Puerto rico. Are they copyrighted? if so may i use them?
Lee Bennett (ATPM Staff) · March 29, 2005 - 23:59 EST #13
Zach - all ATPM wallpaper photos retain the copyright of the photographer who submitted them, yet our readers are granted permission in advance for personal use. In virtually every case, using the images for a school project is also acceptable, but it's nice to get the photographer's blessing anyway. Any other usage should be arranged in advance with the photographer.

In the case of these Puerto Rico images, and the ones in the following month's issue, I was the photographer and you're welcome to use them for your school report. If you're including a bibliography, you can reference these Puerto Rico images as © A. Lee Bennett Jr. / www.ATPM.com

This is my beautiful Isla de Puerto Rico, even though I myself was not born there I am truly 100% Puertorican until death, as we say in spanish "Boricua hasta la muerte". My parents are from San Sebastian 'El Pepino'and I am very honored and proud of my island. God Bless Puerto Rico.

I got stuck here in Cleveland,OH for few more years and I'm dreaming with the day I can return to my Puerto Rico. I do not complain much about this place, everything goes right, but, Puerto Rico is special, unique, fantastic, is the promised piece of earth... Pictures like these you are no able to see anywhere, just from this unbelieveable and dreamable place called Puerto Rico.

the pic r very nice i love my isla puerto rico. como me hace falta. llevo fuera de puerto rico 4 años. y parese un eternidad. mi isla del encanto.
Mia Castro · September 4, 2009 - 15:34 EST #63
Pictures of Ponce, San Juan or any place in Puerto Rico should be taken completely and not in pieces. "El Vigia", is such a beautiful area and I wish someone would take a pic of the complete area including the Castillo. Also, "La Plaza De Las Delicias" is indicative of just about all the plazas in Puerto Rico. The difference is that some plazas are more beautiful than others because the towns maintain them and keep them as they were in the past which is what 99% of tourists want to see and not pictures with current and signs of restaurants or stores. Many pictures of parts of Puerto Rico are not complete. Too bad because that is the beauty of our 'Island', to show it as is.
luz esther · December 18, 2009 - 11:48 EST #64
